Actor John Stamos sentenced to probation for DUI

South Carolina residents who are fans of actor John Stamos may be interested to learn that the 'Full House" star was convicted of his first DUI. On June 12, police received reports that Stamos was seen driving erratically in Beverly Hills, Calif. After paramedics took him to the hospital, Stamos was found to be under the influence of a mind-altering substance.

The 52-year-old actor was charged with one count of driving under the influence of a drug, a misdemeanor. He pleaded no contest in Los Angeles County District Court on Nov. 24. Stamos did not attend his court hearing, and the no contest plea was entered through his attorney. The no contest plea was considered a conviction and implies that Stamos does not dispute his DUI charge or admit any guilt.

As soon as Stamos' plea was entered, he was sentenced to three years of summary probation. Stamos will be obligated to attend two hours of counseling for drug and alcohol addiction, a three-month DUI education class and 52 Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. There have been no reports about what type of substance Stamos had allegedly ingested before the incident.

After a person is charged for DUI, a criminal defense lawyer may be able to help determine the best way to plead by looking into the evidence that the prosecution has in the case. If the evidence of drunk or drugged driving is reliable, an attorney may help the defendant to negotiate for a plea deal. If the evidence is unreliable or it was obtained illegally, an attorney may help a defendant to argue for a dismissal.
