20-year-old woman facing drug and prostitution charges

South Carolina residents may have read about the "desnudas", the word given to topless women who pose for pictures with tourists in Times Square in New York City. On Sept. 2, one of them was taken into custody before charged with prostitution and drug possession. Authorities claimed that the woman offered to perform certain sex acts on undercover officers for $200 before offering to sell him drugs.

It was reported that the undercover cops first began talking to the woman near the 42nd Street and Seventh Avenue intersection. At this point, the 20-year-old woman reportedly offered to perform oral sex for $200. A 22-year-old man with whom she was said to be associated then allegedly attempted to get them to buy drugs from him. The officers later reportedly purchased MDMA pills and cocaine.

Both individuals were charged. The woman was ultimately facing charges for criminal sale of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance and prostitution. The man was also charged with numerous offenses, including sale of a controlled substance and for the promotion of prostitution.

There are several defenses that can potentially be used if a person is accused of being involved in a drug crime. For example, those who have been accused of drug possession can potentially argue that the drugs did not belong to them or that they were in possession of them while under duress. In some cases, an attorney may potentially argue that the defendant has a drug addiction and needs help. If a plea deal can be negotiated, the defendant may be given the alternative of attending and successfully completing a rehabilitation program instead of going to prison.
