South Carolina drug crimes: 2 women arrested in meth house bust

Two Orangeburg County residents have been taken into custody after sheriff's officers busted an alleged meth house. Authorities say that an additional suspect, who is still at large, left her 2-year-old baby in the meth house in the care of one of the arrested individuals.

Sheriff's officers took the suspects into custody on a recent Thursday after receiving a complaint about the Orangeburg County home. Authorities later searched the residence and say they discovered methamphetamine on site. A 41-year-old woman and a 29-year-old woman were arrested. The 41-year-old was charged with methamphetamine possession. The 29-year-old was taken into custody due to an outstanding warrant. As of last reports, both individuals were being held on bond of $20,000.

Police also found a 2-year-old girl in the residence. Allegedly, the girl had been left at the home to be cared for by one of the residents for several hours. However, the mother did not return to collect her child, and police are currently trying to locate her.

A drug crime arrest -- whether it be for intoxicated driving, drug possession or some other kind of violation -- can have serious consequences for those who are accused of the crimes. Indeed, if a parent is convicted of drugged driving or drug possession, for example, he or she could be forced to spend time behind bars and could even lose custody of his or her child. For this reason, accused individuals may wish to employ a well-organized criminal defense to try to achieve a favorable result in their criminal proceedings. While no result can be guaranteed, a detailed review of one's case facts and criminal history will reveal the best defense strategies to be employed on the accused person's behalf.
