South Carolina authorities increase DUI patrols for 4th of July

During the Fourth of July weekend, South Carolina authorities plan to step up their DUI, speeding and traffic patrols and perhaps for good reason. AAA predicts that 2014 will be the busiest Fourth of July in over 13 years. According to AAA, during the holiday travel period of July 2 through July 6, some of the most popular travel destinations for drivers in this region include: Orlando, Myrtle Beach, Nashville, Charleston, Washington and Greenville.

Traffic experts and law enforcement are concerned that fireworks celebrations on Friday and Saturday could increase the presence of drunk drivers. Authorities are therefore asking that drivers be careful when getting behind the wheel and realize that even if one is sober, there will be other drunk drivers on the road.

In order to clear South Carolina roads of as many drunk drivers as possible, police began the "Operation Life" initiative on July 1. Other states are also conducting similar campaigns. These law enforcement campaigns are targeting drivers suspected of DUI and other traffic law violations

With increased police patrols for DUI comes the increased chance of a South Carolina driver being arrested for drunk driving. Depending on the circumstances of one's arrest in such instances, various legal defenses can be employed. Indeed, just because one was accused of drunk driving does not necessarily mean that a conviction will occur. There are many examples of individuals inappropriately accused of being intoxicated behind the wheel, where the individuals where able to successfully navigate their legal defense to get their charges dropped and/or dismissed.
