South Carolina police officer arrested for DUI

Even police officers are sometimes charged with driving while under the influence.  One South Carolina police officer was arrested and charged with DUI after allegedly being involved in a traffic mishap.

Though he was off-duty, the police officer was reportedly driving a patrol car at the time and said to have crashed it into a median.  (Police officers were allowed to drive patrol cars home.) The police officer is now on restricted administrative assignment and is being investigated by the North Myrtle Beach Police Department.

This incident shows how anyone including law enforcement officers can have their life interrupted after a DUI arrest has occurred. Many individuals arrested are individuals that have families and hold responsible positions. However, the consequences of such an arrest can be severe. The publicity alone can create a great deal of embarrassment. Having one's mug shot appear in the paper may lead some individuals in the community to believe that the person arrested is guilty of what has been charged.

Though this matter was reported to the newspapers, we will still need to wait and see before we have a better idea as to what occurred. So far we have only been provided with allegations rather than actual proof that the police officer was under the influence of alcohol when the accident occurred.

Experienced DUI defense attorneys understand what is at stake in these matters. They can provide frank advice concerning one's legal options. They will challenge improper evidence from being admitted at court and make certain the best possible defense is presented. Every DUI case has a unique set of circumstances and will require individual attention.
