University of South Carolina lineman gets another speeding ticket

An all-star player at the University of South Carolina is facing legal action after he was allegedly caught speeding before his team's departure for a bowl game. Defensive player Jadeveon Clowney told the officer that pulled him over for the traffic citation that he was late for the scheduled departure of his team from the USC stadium. Official reports indicate that the college player was traveling nearly 30 mph over the speed limit on the Interstate 126 intersect in Columbia.

Authorities say that the athlete was pulled over after he passed a patrol car on the interstate. Dashboard camera evidence shows that the man was talking to the officer briefly before the ticket was issued. His court date for the speeding ticket is scheduled for Feb. 18, at which time he will be permitted to present his traffic defense in the matter.

After the ticket, Clowney traded places with his female passenger, who drove the pair to their final destination. The officer told the player that he was simply trying to ensure that everyone on South Carolina's roads has a safe holiday season.

This story underscores the fact that anyone can be accused of a traffic violation, no matter how famous they might be. In many cases, traffic violators can benefit from the assistance of a qualified defense attorney, who may be able to identify possible legal options for those facing citations. Although a speeding ticket may not seem like the type of offense that would warrant the assistance of a defense attorney, these professionals' actions may be able to decrease the severity of potential sanctions and fines handed down by South Carolina courts.
