Rapper DMX mounting criminal defense in South Carolina

The rap artist known as DMX is popular throughout the nation, but perhaps nowhere more so than in South Carolina. The man has been in at least three run-ins with law enforcement officers in the state during the past several months, facing a citation for marijuana possession and a variety of other charges that included drunk driving. Officers say the driver was most recently arrested for driving on Nov. 3; his license is suspended. He also allegedly did not have his vehicle registered or appropriate insurance on that vehicle, according to initial reports.

Authorities say that an officer who knew the rapper and his recent arrests apprehended the artist as he approached an airport in Greenville.

DMX was previously arrested even though he was simply cited for marijuana possession. In that case, the officer discovered that the artist had an outstanding warrant because he failed to appear in court. A drunk driving charge has also been issued in connection with a July 26 incident in which the rapper was found driving without a license or seatbelt.

The musical artist has had his fair share of run-ins with officers throughout the nation, including five arrests in a Southwestern state. He was imprisoned after being convicted of drug and animal cruelty allegations, but the troubles did not end there. He was subject to additional sanctions even while in custody because of prison infractions.

Luckily, the man's defense attorney has ensured that the recent arrest will not affect the man's revitalized music career. The criminal allegations will not prevent the man from performing on an upcoming television show, and he will still be able to host a full slate of scheduled concerts.

The man appears to have difficulty with recidivism. In such cases, criminal defendants may need to receive alternative punishments, including rehabilitation and additional education. Defendants who suffer from drug and alcohol problems may struggle to get the fair legal proceedings they deserve, as their afflictions may not be seen as true illnesses. Those victims of substance abuse should receive fair criminal proceedings that protect their interests and help them recover from debilitating conditions.
