Felony charges for man in DUI collision

A South Carolina man is facing felony drunk driving charges in connection with a car accident that severely injured a woman. The injurious crash occurred during the afternoon hours in Horry County on June 18, according to officials. The 57-year-old man is accused of crossing the center line while traveling north on Forestbrook Road when he crashed head-on into a southbound driver.

Authorities report the man sent his pickup truck careening over the center line, striking the vehicle driven by a 54-year-old woman. She had to be cut out of her vehicle. The woman was transported from the scene to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center. The defendant was also transported to that center, though the extent of his injuries remains unclear at this time.

The man had also faced recent alcohol-related charges in connection with an April incident. He was charged with disorderly conduct, following a vehicle too closely and leaving the scene of an accident. He allegedly struck another vehicle that was driving in front of him, damaging the car's bumper. He fled the scene of that accident but was apprehended later. He was also charged with public intoxication one year before that crash.

If the man is convicted of the most recent charges, he could have his vehicle registration revoked and driving privileges suspended. The mandated suspension period has not been released by local news outlets.

The man in this case should consider seeking the assistance of a qualified criminal defense attorney in connection with the charges. These professionals could help him learn more about his rights and responsibilities in the courtroom. Those arrested for drunk driving should remember that an arrest is not a conviction! Instead, seek the assistance of a criminal defense attorney who specializes in DUI to help you manage your criminal case. Your lawyer can help you through your criminal proceeding from indictment to sentencing and beyond.
