Lexington Young Professional Facing DUI Charges

A South Carolina entrepreneur who had been named "Young Professional of the Year" has been charged with drunk driving. The man will be required to mount a criminal defense against the charges, which were accrued when the man was arrested on March 14. Authorities report that the man's blood alcohol content at the time of the arrest was about three times the legal limit.

The 33-year-old man started a young professionals networking group in the area. He owns and operates an event management company that puts on major social galas, including the recent "Brewskis, Bourbon & Butts on Butler," which occurred this past August. He also serves on the town's YMCA board and participates in other philanthropic endeavors.

Officers said they pulled the man over because he was allegedly speeding at about 47 mph in a 30 mph zone. Other indicators showed that the man might have been intoxicated, including braking too late for a red light and stopping in the middle of an intersection. The man failed several manual sobriety tests, and his blood alcohol was measured at about 0.23 percent.

The man was taken into custody at the Lexington County Detention Center, but he was released shortly after arrest on a $2,267 bond.

The man's social standing in the community should hopefully provide him with some credibility in traffic court in this instance. If this is the man's first DUI arrest, he could avoid jail time altogether, even under South Carolina's relatively strict drunk driving regulations. Criminal defense strategies could allow him to simply serve probation and pay a fine, depending on the man's criminal history.

In this case, it might behoove the man to plead guilty to the drunk driving charges. Officers collected several condemning pieces of evidence, including multiple different types of sobriety tests. The man should consult with his criminal defense attorneys before entering a plea in connection with the case.
