Proposed legislation is taking aim at a technological measure used by police that could potentially be an infringement on the rights of local motorists. Automatic license plate recognition systems are used to scan license plates. The plate is then crosschecked with a police database to see if the vehicle has been associated with a number of difference offenses.

Three facing drug charges in Greenwood County

What started as a standard traffic stop for driving on a suspended license, turned into a laundry list of charges for three individuals in Greenwood County, South Carolina. Among the alleged offenses were a number of drug-related charges.
The incident began when the trio of individuals -- two men and one woman -- was leaving a popular supermarket chain located on Bypass 72. Local law enforcement officers at the location recognized the two men as they had been arrested on drug charges in the past.

Man pleads guilty to DUI after Charleston crash

A man in Charleston, South Carolina, admitted to driving under the influence of alcohol when he crashed into a vehicle driven by a 78-year-old woman, which killed her. The accident happened in late 2011 and the man originally went to trial just recently to face a jury and fight his charges.

Lexington teens accused of underage drinking in Kmart parking lot

For the second time in just a month-long span, police in Lexington, South Carolina have arrested a number of individuals for underage drinking. Both instances happened in or near a Kmart parking lot. The most recent incident also included alleged possession of marijuana.
