Why it is important to fight your traffic tickets

South Carolina law enforcement officers issue thousands of traffic tickets each year. While people may view them as minor annoyances, traffic tickets can wreak havoc if you accumulate too many points. You could end up paying higher rates for your insurance or even having your driving privileges suspended.

Man charged after alleged hit-and-run accident

South Carolina police took a 52-year-old man into custody on April 5 after he allegedly struck a parked vehicle outside an Anderson County middle school and then attempted to flee the scene. A school resource officer who had witnessed the crash is said to have given chase and apprehended the man. The man is facing a raft of charges including failure to come to a stop when called to do so by police.

Being accused of reckless driving

When a South Carolina resident is cited with reckless driving, there usually needs to be evidence that the driver was operating their vehicle in a way that was unsafe and that showed that they disregarded the rules of the road. The driver does not have to be involved in a crash to be cited.

Felonies vs. misdemeanors in South Carolina

When an individual is charged with a crime, the offense may be labeled as a misdemeanor or a felony. A misdemeanor is generally considered a less serious offense than a felony, and the penalty for a conviction on such a charge is up to a year in jail. Those who are convicted of a misdemeanor will sometimes serve their sentences in a city or county jail as opposed to a high security prison.
