South Carolina couple charged for gun and drug possession

A South Carolina man and woman were taken into police custody on Aug. 12 after they were accused of being in possession of firearms and of distributing drugs. According to the report, the two individuals were taken into custody following an ongoing investigation that involved the Darlington County Sheriff's Office Drug Enforcement Unit and the Special Enforcement Unit.

The two drug task force agencies executed a search warrant at a Redwood Street location in Darlington. They reportedly seized a number of firearms, controlled substances, marijuana and money from the residence. When the search warrant was completed, the two were both taken into custody and were charged for numerous crimes.

The man, 36, faced a large number of charges related to the search and seizure. For example, he faced charges of simple possession of marijuana, possession of a number of different controlled substances, possession of a firearm by someone who was a convicted felon, sale of a handgun, possession of stolen handguns and distribution of controlled substances within the proximity of a school. The woman, 26, also faced a number of charges, including simple possession of marijuana, possession of a controlled substance, sale of a handgun and possession of a stolen handgun.

Facing either weapons or drug charges can be an emotional and frightening experience. However, depending upon the unique factors in the case, an attorney may be able to help their client fight the charges by providing proof that their client was not involved in the alleged illegal activities or that they became unwilling participants in the illegal activities. If the prosecution has a strong case against the clients, the attorney may be able to help their client negotiate a plea deal that greatly reduces the severity of the charges that were brought against the client.
