South Carolina driver charged with felony DUI

A 26-year-old South Carolina father is dead after he was involved in one-vehicle accident. The 27-year-old behind the wheel of the vehicle is facing felony DUI charges in connection with the case. In addition, the driver has also been charged with reckless homicide.

Authorities report the defendant lost control of his vehicle while driving in the Grand Oaks subdivision in Charleston, South Carolina, on July 14. The victim was ejected from the truck as the vehicle flipped down an embankment. The man, father to a boy who had just celebrated his first birthday, was declared dead at the scene of the crash. Another passenger in the vehicle, a 23-year-old man, was not injured in the accident. The driver was treated for minor wounds before he was taken into custody at the hospital.

Family members and friends have established several online efforts to remember the victim, who was a 2005 graduate of Summerville High School. An autopsy is scheduled for late July in order to determine the young man's formal cause of death.

News reports have not given additional information about the driver's blood alcohol content. It is possible the man received a breath test at the scene, although his injuries may have necessitated a blood draw once he arrived at the hospital. It appears the man's BAC was above the 0.08 percent limit, considering he was charged with felony DUI.

In this case, the driver would benefit from enlisting the services of a qualified criminal defense attorney that specializes in drunk driving cases. These professionals can help defendants learn more about their legal rights and develop a strong defense in their cases. Do not attempt to go through your legal processes alone. Instead, obtain the help of a drunk driving defense lawyer.
