Dash cam footage released in March DUI case

After her March 16 arraignment, a South Carolina woman accused of drunk driving will finally be permitted to defend her actions by using a video tape of the incident. The 47-year-old defendant is facing charges for felony DUI with great bodily injury, according to local authorities. She was released from custody just two days after intake when she posted a $5,000 bond.

The dash cam video of the incident was obtained through a Freedom of Information Act that was filed in March by the Carolina Forest Chronicle newspaper.

Authorities report that the woman is charged with striking a 64-year-old man who was standing on the roadside shoulder during the Windsor Green fire that occurred in March. The woman was driving near the massive fire about an hour after it started when she hit the man. The victim sustained serious head injuries in connection with the accident, and he was hospitalized for some time.

Footage from the tape reveals that the woman became emotional during the interview with officers. She admitted to drinking two glasses of wine before getting behind the wheel. The woman's breathalyzer results showed a blood-alcohol content of about 0.13 percent; South Carolina's legal limit for drivers is 0.08 percent. Officers also reportedly discovered an open container of wine in the woman's vehicle. She admitted that she had been drinking the beverage while operating the car, according to information on the tape.

Footage also shows that the woman was looking to check on her two children, who had been blocked from entering Waterford Plantation after the fire began. That blaze consumed 26 condominium buildings in a nearby development.

The woman in this case should consider seeking the advice of a qualified criminal defense attorney. Even though the video appears to be incriminating, the woman could have additional legal options that she can consider after speaking to a professional lawyer. An experienced DUI defense attorney can help you learn more about the charges you face, providing you with advice and assistance as you progress through your criminal case.
