Lexington teens accused of underage drinking in Kmart parking lot

For the second time in just a month-long span, police in Lexington, South Carolina have arrested a number of individuals for underage drinking. Both instances happened in or near a Kmart parking lot. The most recent incident also included alleged possession of marijuana.

Local police were summoned to the parking lot after receiving a report that a number of youths were loitering around the area at around 10 p.m. Upon their arrival, a number of the young individuals scattered and left the scene. It appeared that the activity centered on a silver Ford Explorer, which was parked in the parking lot.

Police approached the vehicle and its occupants. Upon investigation, an officer claimed that marijuana was present in the vehicle. Authorities claim one of the SUV's occupants told police that the people in a nearby Nissan sold them a gram of marijuana.

An officer approached the Nissan and searched it as well. The investigation allegedly turned up two parcels of marijuana. A 19-year-old supposedly confessed to police that the drugs were all his. The 19-year-old was arrested and booked at the county jail. Police also released four 16-year-old individuals to the custody of their parents. They were accused of drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana.

This came about a month after a similar incident near the same Kmart parking lot, where police tracked down four individuals they believed were drinking underage. Instead of being charged, all four were released to the custody of their parents.

A criminal charge as a juvenile can follow an individual for the rest of their lives. It is of the utmost importance to make the right legal moves when it comes to juvenile crimes in order to limit the future ramifications.
